Clean Your Hands, urges WHO

The clear link between clean hands and good health is again being highlighted in the World Health Organisation’s global annual SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands initiative.

Launched this month, the campaign aims to galvanise action at the point of care to demonstrate how hand hygiene can reduce healthcare-associated infections and increase patient safety.

The SAVE LIVES: Clean Your Hands initiative was first launched in 2009 and has stimulated action at many levels. For example, ministers of health from 124 countries have pledged their commitment to reducing HCAIs and supporting the work of WHO.

“HCAIs are a major concern when it comes to patient safety and many infections are preventable,” said SCA’s NHS account manager Paula Howard. “We at Tork aim to provide solutions that support hand hygiene improvements and encourage good hand hygiene. Tork hand towels and soaps are now used extensively in hospitals throughout the UK.”

Tork supplies the NHS with a range of hand towels including Tork Advanced Zigzag Fold, the leading hand towel in use within the NHS. Last month Tork Premium Extra Mild Soap plus two Tork hand lotion products were included in the NHS Supply Chain catalogue for the first time. This means that SCA now provides NHS hospitals with a comprehensive hygiene solution.

The WHO campaign includes a suite of hand hygiene improvement tools and materials that are available on the organisation’s website. For more information about the initiative, visit: http://www.who.int/gpsc/5may/background/en/
