Fun and games in the toilet
Visiting a public urinal in Japan may soon become much more fun following news that Sega has piloted games consoles in selected loos in the country.
The toilet consoles, or "Toylets" as games giant Sega calls them, allow men to while away the time spent in the urinal by taking part in a series of contests.
Bearing curious names such “Graffiti Eraser" and "Battle! Milk From Nose!" the games work by means of pressure sensors fitted within the urinals plus a screen mounted on the wall above the unit.
The aim of the “Toylet” scheme, which has been piloted in four locations in Tokyo during January, is to focus the user’s attention on advertisements between the games.
The games themselves require men to use the strength and direction of their urine to accomplish various tasks. One game, for example, involves washing a wall clean of graffiti while another pits the skills of the present urinal user against those of his predecessor.
So how does a Toylet “winner” convince his friends about the high score he has achieved in the urinal? Simple. The game allows him to download his results on to a memory stick and take it away with him.
