Lights, music, action: it’s time to use the bathroom
The bathroom experience may soon be taking a giant leap forward in upmarket locations in the US and China.
The new Numi toilet from Kohler offers high-tech features that take toileting to a whole new level.

The motion-activated lid and seat know when you are approaching, for example, while floor-level vents help to take the underfoot chill off those cold floor tiles.
The toilet features an integral bidet and deodorising system along with illuminated panels to provide ambient lighting. Meanwhile, built-in speakers allow you to listen to the radio or connect your MP3 player via the remote docking station.
A remote control allows you to control light levels, seat and underfoot temperature and bidet position. And there are also user pre-sets allowing up to six users to adjust the loo to suit their own personal preferences.
The Numi is aimed at the consumer market, but could also appeal to managers of hotels and upmarket offices.
Bizarrely, the company’s website features images of an attractive couple in a glass-walled room with a Numi toilet in the corner. Anyone using the lavatory would have a panoramic view over the city below – and presumably, vice versa.
If you were the owner of this £4,000 superloo, you would be justifiably proud of it – but surely not that proud?
