SCA plant runs on renewable energy
Sustainability leader SCA now has a plant in Poland that operates entirely on renewable energy.
All electricity consumed at the Oława plant comes from the Suwałki Wind Park in the north-east of Poland.
The Oława factory, built in 1999, delivers various products including nappies and Tena incontinence care products. The plant is SCA’s first personal care production facility in Europe to manufacture products using only renewable energy.
According to Oława plant manager Marcel van den Hurk: “Not only does green electricity add to our environmental targets, it is also cost-effective and beneficial for the business.
“We are convinced that initiatives such as ours add value for our customers and consumers while demonstrating that c/o life is more than a buzzword - it is the way we work at SCA.”
The company is committed to using alterative energy wherever possible within its operations. Last summer SCA began operating four wind turbines at its Service Excellence Centre in Wisconsin, USA. Together the 20-kilowatt turbines will produce 100 to 125 megawatt-hours per year – which is sufficient electricity to power between 10 and 12 homes.
