SCA receives Forest Stewardship Council award
SCA in Germany has received a Global Partner Award from the Forest Stewardship Council.
The company was honoured in the pulp and paper category of the awards, which recognises companies that promote responsible forest management through the FSC certification scheme.
This is the first time the company has received a Global Partner Award from the Forest Stewardship Council, which is an independent not-for-profit organisation established to promote responsible management of the world’s forests.
SCA is committed to responsible forestry. The company owns 2.6 million hectares of forest in Sweden, making the organisation Europe’s largest private forest owner. The company was one of the pioneers in implementing sustainable management systems and in 1999 SCA´s forests received certification by the Forestry Stewardship Council.
Every tree felled on SCA’s land is replaced by three more, either by natural regeneration or planting. Furthermore, around five per cent of SCA’s active forest land is voluntarily excluded from felling to help conserve diversity.
SCA is one of the world’s largest suppliers of FSC-certified products such as toilet paper, kitchen rolls, magazine paper, newsprint and pulp. The demand for FSC-certified paper products is increasing in Europe, especially in the UK and Germany.
The awards were presented at a gala dinner in Bonn, Germany.
