SCA receives energy efficiency recognition
SCA in Germany has been asked to join a pioneering climate protection network supported by the country’s government.
The Klimaschutz-Unternehmen - Climate Protection Companies - is a network of organisations dedicated to protecting the climate and producing energy-efficient solutions.
The group has set itself ambitious targets to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and increase energy efficiency, and is supported by Germany’s Federal Ministry of Economics and the Federal Ministry for the Environment.
The network currently consists of around 20 members and SCA is one of the first major companies to be accepted. SCA was invited to join the network after winning the DENA International Energy Efficiency Award - sponsored by the German government – last year.
Both the advisory board and the certifying committee recognised the outstanding achievements made by SCA with regards to energy efficiency and climate change. They were particularly impressed by SCA’s long and steady tradition in working with energy savings, plus the level of involvement of the company’s top management.
An awards ceremony will be held in September at a venue to be confirmed. SCA recently set itself stiff new sustainability targets including a pledge to triple its production of biofuels by 2020.
The company has also resolved to reduce CO2 emissions from fossil fuels and from purchased electricity and heating by 20 per cent by 2020, with 2005 as reference year.
