SCA wins flying toilet prize
A “flying toilet” has earned SCA first prize in an Austrian air challenge competition.
A team of trainees from SCA Packaging in Austria earned the prize after constructing a toilet cubicle – complete with toilet and loo roll – made from corrugated board and then making it fly.
The seven trainees are conducting apprenticeships in packaging technology, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and industrial business administration at SCA Packaging Austria’s headquarters near Vienna.
They entered their remarkable flying toilet construction in the "flying corrugated board" category of the Scalaria Air Challenge 2010.
“When the guests and other participants first saw the construction it looked like a simple wooden box,” said Andrea Homberg from SCA Packaging in Austria. “But that was the plan. When the loo made its way to the starting ramp it transformed into a flying kite and took off and landed a few metres away in Lake Wolfgang.”
The contraption flew the longest distance and scored higher than any of the other nine competing exhibits. The SCA team won EUR 500 and their “flight” was aired on Austrian TV.
