The mystery of the missing toilet

A team of Australian road diggers returning to work after the weekend recently were dismayed to discover their only toilet had been stolen.

The bright yellow and turquoise portaloo had mysteriously disappeared from the men’s work site in northern Queensland.

The toilet had last been seen early on the Saturday morning but by Monday it had vanished. Police say that moving the loo would have required at least two people and a truck.

Project manager Peter Reily said the road team, who were carrying out stablising work on the Bruce Highway in Queensland, were now waiting for a new portable toilet to be delivered. In the meantime workers were having to travel about one kilometre to the nearest restroom.

“We’ve had gear stolen before, but never a toilet,” he said. And the headline in the Australian press? Yes, you’ve guessed it: “Bruce Highway workers' toilet stolen; police have nothing to go on”.
