Four new US wind turbines
SCA has advanced its commitment to green alternative energy by installing four wind turbines at its Service Excellence Centre in Wisconsin, USA.
The official start-up of the turbines was marked with a community event and dedication ceremony on July 21.
“Our new wind turbines stand as a symbol of SCA’s commitment to sustainability and our environmentally-friendly products,” said Don Lewis, president of SCA Tissue North America at the community celebration.
The event gave the public a chance to learn more about alternative energy, environmental awareness and conservation. Footings for the 30-metre towers were placed in December 2009. The four 20-kilowatt turbines are now adding to the electricity supply for the SEC building.
“Each turbine has three 15-foot blades and together the four turbines will produce 100 to 125 megawatt-hours per year - enough electricity to power between 10 and 12 homes,” says Mike Dillon, manager for SCA’s tissue operations, environmental and risk management.
