SCA joins Global Compact
SCA has joined the UN Global Compact, an international body that aims to promote corporate responsibility.
The UN Global Compact, launched in 2000 by former United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, is the world's largest voluntary corporate citizenship initiative comprising over 5,000 company participants from more than 120 countries.
“SCA is committed to doing business in a responsible manner,” said Yogi Pillay, director of CSR programmes at SCA in Stockholm.
“The SCA Code of Conduct, launched in 2004, is based upon the UN Global Compact principles and ensures that our sustainability initiatives are not managed in isolation but are a well integrated component of our strategy and approach to doing business."
The Global Compact principles
Under the Global Compact’s 10 principles, companies are required to:
- Respect internationally proclaimed human rights
- Ensure they are not complicit in human rights abuses
- Uphold freedom of association and collective bargaining
- Eliminate all forms of forced, compulsory and child labour and workplace discrimination
- Promote greater environmental responsibility and environmentally-friendly technologies
- Work against all forms of corruption, including extortion and bribery
