SCA responds to victims of the Haitian earthquake
SCA management and staff responded swiftly to the call for aid following the earthquake that devastated Haiti’s capital city Port-au-Prince in January 2010.
SCA made a US$50,000 cash donation while the company’s employees in the US, Canada, Mexico and Central America also collected funds in order to help.
SCA has promised to match every dollar donated by staff members and also hopes to send products such as nappies and feminine care products to the disaster zone. The Red Cross estimates that approximately three million people have been affected by the earthquake.
A history of responding swiftly
SCA has a history of responding swiftly with cash and hygiene products when international disasters occur. In May 2008 SCA together with its Chinese partner, Vinda, pledged around US$140,000 to help victims of an earthquake in the Sichuan province of China which claimed thousands of lives.
And in November 2007 SCA helped with relief efforts in south-eastern Mexico where heavy flooding caused devastation in the state of Tabasco.
SCA carried out fund-raising activities to help those affected by the floods and sent four trailers of supplies including nappies, medicines, boots and other items to the area.
