Tork donates wipers to help clean up Gulf oil spill
Tork wipers are to be used to help clean up after the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.
Tork manufacturer SCA has donated more than US$200,000 - £126,000 - worth of wiping products to Gifts In Kind International.
The wipers will be used by non-profit and grassroots volunteer groups to aid the Gulf oil spill disaster relief efforts.
“Supporting the Gulf oil spill clean-up is one of the many ways we demonstrate our long-standing commitment to improving the environment, while showing we care for the communities where we live and operate,” said Don Lewis, president of SCA’s tissue operations in North America.
The Tork wipers will be used on board Strike Force recovery boats to help sanitise equipment and clean deck machinery and tools. They will also be used for hand washing for on-site volunteers along the coastline.
The Deepwater Horizon oil spill began in April when an explosion sank a drilling rig and killed 11 workers in what was to become the worst offshore oil spill in US history.
The oil flowed for three months and caused extensive damage to marine and wildlife habitats. Work began on pumping cement deep under the sea floor to plug the spill In September.
