environmental responsibility

Our three main environmental concerns are: water use, CO2 emissions and fibre sourcing.

New manufacturing techniques allow us to optimise performance and reduce water usage, waste and CO2 emissions. Equally important is our ongoing commitment to using 100 per cent sustainably-sourced wood fibre.

But how do we know where the greatest impacts and opportunities for improvement lie?

We take the long view, the lifecycle view. We analyse our products’ environmental impact at every stage from their beginnings in nature to their end of life, and at every point in the cycle in between.

The Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) is the only tool to provide a complete picture of a product’s environmental impact throughout its lifespan – from material creation to disposal - and SCA has more than 20 years of expertise in delivering this assessment. This helps us to make the best environmental choices with regards to selection of materials, providing guidance for sustainable product development and improving the entire value chain.

Commitment to forestry
We are constantly building our forest. Every tree we cut down is replaced by three more. We take measures to preserve a chemical and pesticide-free forest, and do everything possible to emulate a natural forest environment.
